Why the fees and taxes for AC reward flights YYC-YVR-HKG more than double?

I remembered the fees and taxes for the said returned flights is about $30, for sure it was less than $100 when I checked last year.

I just checked the same routes today, now the charges is about $196.01?
Does anyone know what happened? Is there anyway to decrease the charges?

Thanks for the replies.

Can't believe there is such a big jump in less than a year.
I am pretty sure the charges is around $30 last year, as I thought the redemption was pretty good at that time.
Now with 75K+$192, I don't think it is a good redemption anymore.
But I notice there are a lot more availability this time, maybe it is the tradeoff.

1. Take a look at this post where I listed the increased surcharges on my HKG paid tickets. Reward tickets are not going to escape increases.

2. As for not being worth it, I'm sure many here can tell you that value is relative. It's been discussed before. There are plenty of fliers who pay the high YQ fees on certain carriers because they want to flight that airline, that class of service and/or that route.

Happy Travels.
