Not exactly. My understanding from employee friends is if your duty station and residence are different (e.g. duty station is YYZ but you reside in YOW), what you describe is called commuting and not deadheading. You may occasionally need to deadhead to YOW to work a flight, but travel to/from your residence at the beginning or end of a duty cycle would not be considered deadheading.

Okay I just received a confirmation.

Deadheading FAs do not have priority over eUpgrades, so the letter was, at best, poorly worded, and there were shenanigans with my flight.

Although I guess the FA still had "priority", albeit not an official policy.

A confirmation from whom?

AC.

Basically the order I thought it was (and listed upthread) is accurate.

Honestly , I find these threads not very useful because we have zero chance of knowing the exact facts of why an employee may be seated in J.

Chalk it up next move on. ( is what I tell myself anyway)

Flight attendants never have priority over eUpgrades.

Which is why this was very interesting to me. It was a huge change.

Except the letter was wrong, so this thread's original point is somewhat useless. However, it's still interesting, because flight attendants never have priority over eUpgrades, and yet, a FA got J over an eUpgrade.

Bottom line seems to be that people who answer complaints either have trouble reading the complaint or are under pressure to answer quickly so they jump to conclusions and answer more or less anything based upon an overly quick reading of the complaint to get the job done.

And/or made up a quick answer to make the OP go away.

Someone must have done a good job at showing his/her boss how good he/she was at cutting costs and improving the bottom line.

A recent Rapidair flight ,YYZ/YUL had 25 of 30 J seats empty on a 789 aircraft. Of the 5 seats taken in J, not a single AC staff person.
Gotta pick the right Rapidair flight;)

So to summarize the individual who wrote you the letter posted incorrect information and so this thread was really a waste of time?

I suspect it turned out to be a worth while post.

On my YYZ - YUL flight last week there were 3 uniform FAs in J (on a 321 that meant my smaller bag had to go under the seat!)

Isn't the underlying issue here, the lack of transparency on the part of AC? The "rules" re upgrading are not clear. Several posters thought they knew the rules but now it seems they may have been changed.

Paying passengers may not like or agree with the rules but that's a separate issue.
