That must be the problem. The IT monkeys have trouble counting that high.

If you are referring to the ITA contract, it was much more recently than that. WS also went through a similar experience.

Air Canada IT

I worked worked in IT for 44 years (1963 - 2007 ) started as a computer operator on an IBM 1401 and finished my career as the Director, Academic Computing at a university and did every job just about in between.

It is my humble opinion that IT should be managed by a customer focussed business person who's strength is managing people - and NOT by a technical guru who dreams in binary.

I always told my staff two things - "Take ownership of what you do and remember, it is NOT an IT project with a business component but a business project with an IT component"...

I give full credit to AC here for doing the right thing and ditching a bunch of old systems and replacing them with 1 central system that is new. Fundamentally this is great.

What it's all going to come down to is execution.

I would imagine we are all in agreement with this.

Air Canada To Build New Reservations System

5 January 2006
Aviation Daily

Air Canada plans to replace its current RES III reservations system this year "to better meet the requirements of our new business model." Code-named "Athena," the project involves a large team to develop a reservations system that will be "simple, easy to use, and that will allow us to serve our customers consistently well," the airline told employees. Air Canada made clear it would not integrate existing systems from other legacy carriers.

Replacing or merging into one system, doesn't mean it's a new system they're going into.
