Skiiped portion
Hi there
Just wondering..
On a pre Sept 6 booked ticket..
I have a friend who booked YUL-YYz-Houston return. He wants to fly all the way to YUL but has to start the return protion from Toronto. If he phones the airlines and lets them know he will give up the YUL-YYZ portion is that going to be a problem?
I have a feeling they discourage it but I dont think he should face a problem..What do you think?
Any experiences ina similar situation out there?

The important thing is to phone. They might give you a lot of static or might say OK and make a note on the record.
If you don't phone and don't fly the first segment, the rest of your itinerary will be cancelled.
I have done this in the past but only once or twice a long time ago and they OK'd it. I just explained that it was impossible to get to the origin airport on time but I could get to the next one.

Actually, you must use your ticket coupon in sequence. If your friend does not show up for the first segment and just goes to travel on
the second segment, his ticket will be void.
He will need to contact AC or his travel agent to cancel and rebook his ticket.

ah yes.....
So...your friend does not use one part of his ticket....he calls AC and cancells that part, then he rebooks the rest of the ticket as is.....
AC get to sell again his unsed portion, and AC will charge him.
$145.00 +tax for the change
And , then re-caculate the fair, based on the advance purchase rule and fair class....
Then pay to upgrade to the new fare basis...
Ah...life is fair in AC Land!...
I wish it was a hockey ticket, you could miss the first period and just show up for the last two...seats the same...you could even let some one else watch the first period at no cost to anyone....

I would way up the cost....
A return YYZ-YUL is about $300.00
If the change fees come to more than that I would go back to YUL on a new ticket, dumped the return, then continue of the old ticket...
extra points, plus a seg for the bonus...

This happened to me on a LGA-YYZ-YYC [I just wanted YYZ-YYC] in Z class from TravelCutz...
I had to physically goto a TravelCutz to get my itinerary changed to YYZ-YYC.. I got a credit for the LGA-YYZ $65.00, and was assessed a $30.00 penalty for changing the ticket, so I 'made' $35.00. Wahoo.
If it's a TravelCutz ticket, you can only (i.e. not at the airport) make the change at a TravelCutz location, and they actually have to write out the passenger coupon by hand.
I even called AC beforehand, and they said 'no way'. The reason why (in my situation) is that my ticket was LGA-YYC via YYZ, not LGA-YYZ, and YYZ-YYC.
Hope it sheds more light.

Next time, if he knows before buying the ticket, he can buy it open-jaw. Price may be > or <, but it will be 2 half-round-trips, NOT 2 one-ways.
Last year I had booked Seattle-Vancouver (4-day stopover)-Victoria & return, then took the BC Ferry. Rep said there should be no problemo.
