Further Pressure on AC: WestJet Price Drop Guarantee
Big ad in today's paper - WestJet Price Drop Guarantee

How it works:*
1.Purchase a WestJet flight
2.Find the exact same flight cheaper
3.Contact us prior to departure and we'll give you back the difference in WestJet dollars
*Terms and conditions.
How to claim the WestJet Price Drop Guarantee on flights:
1.Take a screenshot of the lower fare from westjet.com or a Canadian travel provider's website where the lower total fare was found
3.Once your request has been reviewed, an email will be sent with the status of your claim
4.If approved, your WestJet account will be credited the difference in WestJet dollars once you've completed your entire trip
I wonder how AC will respond?

They have been dojng this for years, albeit you had to call in and they deducted the relevant change fee (usually $50) from the different they gave back as a credit.
What is interesting is the promotion of this. WJ said they were charging for bags to help fund lower prices and looks like there is at least some sincerity in that.

Well it's always great to see airlines trying new things! This should generally help build trust in flyers to buy further out without worry.
One thing to note, is that the credit in WestJet dollars is only good for 6 months, then it expires. Non-transferrable.
For a FF this would probably be ok, but for a non-FF buying their 1 vacation trip a year 3 months before this may not be the benefit it seems.
I would have expected at least a year.

Now that AC has "matched" WJ's charge for first bag, will they offer to match the (slightly) offsetting refund with a similar price drop guarantee?

Of course AC will match the WJ's price guarantee.
AC will give you a toll free number to call, to ask for the price drop guarantee. There'll be one CSR working each day, and will try to take a call every hour on the hour, and then a break. If you're lucky, you'll be one of the 6 persons each day that will get your lower price guarantee.
Oh, there's only a $200 processing fee, some inventory confirmation/adjustment fee, plus scamcharge fees...
