I encountered two incidents in MLLs on back to back days this week:

1. In a MLL, an older couple was complaining to the staffs for pausing to watch a little bit of the Canada Olympic hockey game and sharing a few comments with the patrons. The couple was upset because the staffs were slow cleaning up their dirty wine glasses and plates which they created themselves (side note - who drink wine at 10am?). They actually dragged the MLL door person over and complained for 10 minutes while door person left the door unattended. This happens to be one of the friendliest MLL I visit and the staffs are great there; and I told the staffs so after the couple complained.

But seriously, why do these individuals think their behavior is acceptable? Perhaps I crossed the line during the second incident but I felt good about it afterwards.

Can't comment on examples #2 and #3 but on behalf of all "older couples" I want to apologise for this disgraceful behaviour.

Fortunately we're not all like that!

At 68 and 73 we've never been in an MLL and likely never will.

Sadly, give some people a little prestige and it goes to there heads.

Apologies again to all MLL staff - hope this was a rare example!!!

That's the sort of pain that means you'd remember the place, time and date for the rest of your life!

I've enjoyed a drink at god-knows-what o'clock in Asia having arrived from Europe in transit to Australia, you don't know where people have come from or are going to or what time zone their heads are in.

It's 5 o'clock (aka happy hour) somewhere in the world.

In contradiction to what I posted in the "what to do with leftover MLL passes" thread, I'd endorse someone sending a pair of passes to TemboOne for the gracious response. (Alas, mine are gone.)

The DYKWIA attitude transcends all age groups! And status certainly has no bearing either IME.

We could all do with a whole lot less entitlement attitude and a whole lot more courtesy all around in our day to day activities.

Now, if I could just get some da** service around here...;-)

I think in general, MLLs are good places in which to hang out before flights (have visited YVR Domestic, all 3 YYZs, YUL International).

However, I can't say the same for SFO or ORD's UA Clubs... no peace even in the supposed "quiet zones".

I use to think the MLL was special, but its not, anyone can get in as long as you meet a criteria, earn, spend, pass, guess etc.

As with any place where multiple humans of different demographics meet, there will always be some kind of issue. That is life!

Good people can behave badly, bad people can behave nicely

Be good to each other, you never know who may be watching :D

Exactly.
I always have Scotch on my morning intra-European flights. The savvy FAs could tell right away that it was the evening for me. :)

2. In a different MLL, a gentleman took the seat directly in front of the TV broadcasting another Canada Olympic hockey game and proceed to YELL into his phone. I now know the industry he is in, his customer's name, the price he intends to bid on producing a product, the sku of the product, the exact margin he has on the bid, the turnaround time for his China plant to change over his molds etc. I fully intend on selling such information to his competitor... (just kidding). I could care less what he said on the phone but he is upsetting dozens of other patrons who were quietly enjoying the game before his arrival. I started to intentionally cheer loudly during (and only during) the gentleman's call, as well as a couple other patrons. He got the hint by his 3rd phone calls and moved to a different area of the MLL. PS: if your margin on your deal was $400,000 and you were recently at a MLL bragging about the deal - that was you on the phone; and me and the gentleman on the other side of you had a good laugh at your expense after you left.

And then there was the gentleman who tried to conclude a real estate deal when he was sitting on the throne within the men's room... but he really wasnt bothering anyone else.

But seriously, why do these individuals think their behavior is acceptable? Perhaps I crossed the line during the second incident but I felt good about it afterwards.

I don't know how much you travel, but if I posted about each and every single blowhard I have encountered during my in-transit travels just for the year 2013, FT would have to open a dedicated Forum just for that. At first I get annoyed but then realize I just have to forget about it and focus on my Sudoku or something :p
(don't get me wrong though - I still post about my random blowhard experiences once in a blue moon :) )
