We need a thread like that in this forum. The Delta one is epic! :D

I was also hoping to fly AC on the occasional TPAC or TATL flight, but they've made that financially unfeasible so that won't be happening.

For now there are still some half-way reasonable "O" Premium Economy fares to be had (if you consider $2-3K reasonable). You can upgrade immediately for 6-8 eUpgrades and they don't require a co-pay.

Gosh no. I can purchase a W fare on UA for a lot less than that and upgrade at time of booking.

Not according to the GPU thread in the UA forum :p (that's a bit of a joke). Haters gonna hate, and people who are flexible with their schedule will have 80% success on eUps as E35K.

Although it should be noted that you can only upgrade your W fare because you credited 100k miles to UA. If you were a lower level, you wouldn't have any GPUs. AC at least gives you the (overpriced) option to upgrade as a lower level. A lot of people seem to use the W fare upgrade-at-booking example as why UA is better than the new co-pays, but it really isn't.

Both airlines have their advantages and disadvantages, both can suck, but both can be great.

Perhaps he was just trying to get away from all of the loud cheering and deal-closing-loud-talkers in the main part of the MLL in order to do his business while he was doing his business :D

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never actually experienced any loud/boorish behaviour in an airline lounge (MLL or otherwise). The only sort of potentially offensive lounge behaviour I've seen is guests taking their shoes off and resting their bare feet on a chair or ottoman. Maybe I've been in Asia too long, but out here, displaying the soles of your bare feet is considered highly offensive and it's just something I don't like seeing in a supposedly 'dignified' public space either. (It wouldn't bother me if they had socks on or if it was in a designated sleep/rest area where they were covered in a blanket).

Oh and please use the tongs not your hands when picking up food like nachos or veggie sticks!

In general though, an airline lounge is like any public space such as a restaurant, movie theater etc. There will always be people acting in a way that does not conform to the expected of the majority... that's life!

+

I've never found Behaviour in the lounges any worse than on the airplane itself, though that's perhaps an unreasonable benchmark.

Awesome!

I think it was fine :D

I once when taking a train in Europe from Nice to Barcelona witnessed a man drinking a beer at 5 AM when transferring in Portbou from French to Spanish trains. From then on I never judge at what time one wants to indulge in alcohol!

remember though, everyone touches the tongs, some people may have touched your food...;)

flyquiet Feb 22, 2014 8:02 am

yes, we had the tong discussion before. Fingers picking up every other person's germs from the tongs then inserting those germs into the mouth on the nachos or vegetable sticks. I now use a cocktail napkin to grip the tongs! Or the cocktail napkin to grab the food item. Or rarely, if possible, carefully grab food items that are separate and apart from other food items such that I won't touch the other food items.
Even the food in the UA clubs in individual wrappers, the wrappers are touched by other people, and then you use your hands to open the wrappers and put the food (cracker, cheese, carrot) directly into your mouth. It's a germapalooza. I got so sick the last time I passed through a UA club.

If you'd be at the VIE J lounge on Oct. 17 2005 between 06:30 and 11:00, you'd see a fat guy looking unhappy and drinking several bottles of beer. That was me, in pain, passing a kidney stone. So you're absolutely right in not judging people drinking alcoholic beverages at unusual times.

Why not have drinks at 11? It helps you teleport to your destination much easier. :)

I think I was in YVR domestic a week ago when I grabbed a couple napkins. I used one to grab the tongs, pick up a cookie, and transfer it to another napkin. A nearby guest looked at me strangely, but I've read too much on FT to do it any other way ;)

Although this morning in YYZ domestic, it completely slipped my mind, and I used the tongs without a napkin () to grab french toast, "omelettes", hash browns, and some other tasty stuff I didn't realize they had.
