*FAQ:
Q: On the 787-9 (789), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Rows 5 and 8 on both port and starboard sides have only one window, instead of two on all other port/starboard J seats.

Q: On the 787-8 (788), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Only row 5 port and starboard sides have zero windows.

Q: Does the middle J seats' middle divider come down?
A: No, on the 788 and 789 the middle divider does not come down and is fixed in place. In fact, all Dream Cabin (788, 789, 77L, 77W) middle dividers are fixed and do not come down.

Clearly, I am a FOTSG and don't work at the airport. So ignore what I said.

Curious on recent experiences with window shades on the 787s flying TPAC. I don't want to start a new debate over this issue, or debate whether the shades should or should not be locked, but I want to be sure that either the shades are left unlocked, or my shade will be unlocked if I tell the FA to do so.

I've done 16 TPAC sectors on AC since January. The SDs are in charge of the window shades, not the FAs. Some lock the window shading in dark mode after the main meal service. On AC 17 the other day, a few of us wanted to read as it was approx 1pm YVR time and not everyone plans to sleep after eating. I asked the SD to unlock mine and he did. I looked around the cabin and there were at least 4 others doing the same.

Just be pleasant when asking and I also don't keep it at the brightest setting.

Noticed this info this morning on page 30

Second Quarter 2019 Management’s Discussion and Analysis of Results of Operations and Financial Condition July 30, 2019

"6.6. Capital Expenditures and Related Financing Arrangements Boeing 787 Aircraft

Air Canada took delivery of the last of 37 Boeing 787 aircraft at the end of April 2019 and has no remaining purchase commitment with The Boeing Company (“Boeing”) for this aircraft type. Air Canada has purchase options for 13 Boeing 787 aircraft (entitling Air Canada to purchase aircraft based on previously determined pricing and delivery positions), and purchase rights for 10 Boeing 787 aircraft (entitling Air Canada to purchase aircraft based on Boeing’s then current pricing and available delivery positions). These were all previously known - hopefully it will mean some conversions in the future (with deep discounts for the Max debacle). Maybe even some 787-10 for transatlantic operations (all that seems less likely with the ongoing A330 additions).

Perhaps to replace the 767s with Rouge, or to go to the Transat fleet? Those A310s... yikes.

The A310's are being replaced by A321LR's (2 are already in the fleet).

The capex on 787's for a low cost carrier is an interesting proposition. They exist at Jetstar, Scoot, and Norwegian. Jetstar has a fairly good track record it seems and is well integrated into the Qantas business model. Scoot has not been around for as long. Norwegian seems to be struggling and are likely overcommitted to aircraft deliveries. You'd have to think the 797 (if it's ever built) would be perfect for Rouge. The other option would be A332's configured like they are for Transat. The 787 at Rouge might be more likely now that Boeing is going to owe AC for the Max groundings.

Predicting the Rouge fleet plan is definitely a fun exercise!

I'm surprised they're not jumping all over those options due to current fleet constraints. Though I don't know how long it would take to receive them.

I'm getting a little annoyed with AC 739 being operated by a 788 (20J) (it's historically been a 763 (24J) or 789 (30J)). It's exceptionally hard to book it last minute. Routinely J0 or J1 even days out for Sunday nights.

Boeing has 3.5 years of backlog at a 14 per month production rate. I suspect it would be a while before they could get aircraft delivered and by then the Max will be flying again. Wet leases are more likely to deal with the shortfall. They will have some extra wide body capacity come winter, especially with the Rouge 67's covering mainline flying and with the ongoing drop in transpacific loads to HKG and China. AC will also begin receiving the A220 in December and will have 15 in service by the end of 2020. Seems unlikely they would order very expensive wide bodies unless they had a place to fly them long term.

Here is another interesting one again on Boeing's credibility regarding software design:
https://i.blackhat.com/USA-19/Wednes....pdfApparently Boeing's response is rather shall we say weak...

6-year olds listening to a 12-year old.

This isn't the fist time Santamarta (the 12-year old, all the plebs repeating and pushing this drivel are the 6-year olds) has got things wrong, and sadly this will not be the last time he and his ilk get this shiz wrong.

Not sure if this is the right place to post or not, but here goes:

4 of us are flying YVR - BNE in May 2020 in J (788). As we have 2 little ones with us (will be ages 4 and 2), are there any seating recommendations to make it easier to access the kids when the need arises? Both kids have traveled a number of times, but mostly YVR - YOW, so they've never had their own pod and it will be the 2 year old's first time with her own seat.

Currently have 1 and 2 A/D.

thanks

1AD for the kids, 2AD for the adults.

If that causes any issues, then just swap one kid and one adult in flight.

I know this is in here somewhere, but I can't get the search to turn it up: Flying YYZ-HNL in the spring on the 787-9, what are people preferences for flying with your spouse (assuming you want to chat with them once or twice on the flight)?

I believe we have done 7A-7C, but I can't recall exactly, except that the middle dividers don't go down...

TIA
