Rant: AC trying to make my head explode over YYZ-NRT fares

I'm flying YYZ-NRT tomorrow. For fun (ha ha I'm such a fool) I checked the price to buy a ticket tomorrow, as of today.

It's over $500 less than I paid.

If anybody slashes Calin's tires, I swear it wasn't me.

You're probably better off slashing Jeff Smisek's tires as you can fly UA YYZ-NRT tmrw (*w/ an AC Express segment*), coming back a few days later for $1,000 all in.

These posts are great ..... "Can't believe how expensive AC is!?" ...... "Can't believe how cheap AC is!?!?"

There's an Asia sale going on? I don't see any mention of it.

Is this what your referring to? http://www.aircanada.com/en/offers/a...6362830=1#-INT

(doesn't seem very sale-like...)

If you cancel and rebook, you can get $400 back

The few seats were gone almost instantly. If I changed to connecting in YYC I could have saved even more, but with a Tango fare and friends flying with us, not an option. Oh well.

I actually wonder how much you paid and how much it is now... and when you bought the ticket.

For YYZ-HKG, I watch the prices slowly for my in-laws and I would say the best time to purchase one is in the range from end-of-Jan to mid/end-of-Feb and then end-of-July to end-of-Aug. I think if it wasn't CX (or whoever started it) on sales, these $12xx fares will not last that long. I do not watch YYZ-NRT prices, but I would think they also follow some kind of pattern as well.

You can even get to Bangkok through NRT for under $900.

For the very curious, I was being imprecise. I spent over $1500, but my ticket included seven segments, and covered a few different things I was trying to accomplish. If I were to be more fair to AC, the cost difference is about $300. Booked in March 2013, for travel in May, September, October, November.

I searched again later and the nonstop at $900 was gone, but YYZ-YYC-NRT was still $789!

I feel your pain (YYZ-NRT fares). I was thinking of visiting NRT during American thanksgiving and I'm kind of confused at how PE can cost more than Z

LOL. Especially since there is no PE on the 763 on YVRNRT...
