eUpgrades when R=0 at request

Hello everyone,

What's your experience with upgrades request when R=0 at the time of the request? In my experience, the upgrade always happens, if it happens in advanced, at T-2 around 8AM ET. Has anyone experienced a different timeline after you do the request at T-7 for SE, T-6 for E*75K, T-5 for E*50k, ...?

Also what's the logic behind it? Would they only do these upgrades if there is a minimum J availability, let's say J=6? has anyone been upgraded in advanced when J is low (J3, J4, J5)? Is this a machine process or someone is actually looking at the loads?

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences!

The one time it happened to me, it was for a flight on June 15 and it cleared June 11 at 9pm PDT. I was nominated by an E50K.

I imagine that either someone cancelled an R or J ticket, such that they opened up R space.

However, I can also see that on certain routes, they might typically know that they never sell more than 8 J seats after T-7. So at T-7, if there are 10 available, they set R2. But they also know that at T-3, they never sell more than 4 J seats, so if it's J6 at this point, they set R2 again.

My experience is that if one is waitlisted and it's going to clear, it does so at the gate - Never before.

...and when it clears at the gate it's maybe 1 times out of 4, maybe 5.

I'm only 50K though, and never fly on Latitude.

I find they clear at the gate almost 90% of time. If your an SE then those chances are very much in your favor.

I've had several waitlisted upgrades clear at around t-2. It's actually a pleasant email to receive from AC.

Like you, I'm E50 and don't fly Latitude.

Of the eUpgrade requests I've had with R=0 at time of request, a few of them cleared a couple of nights before, and the rest at the gate.
