No, they didn't send the 2002 certs to you in December as goodwill. They did it so they can secretly slip the new 2002 upgrade rules to you and claimed that they told you.

they've always sent new certs in Dec.

Shareholder Feb 17, 2002 4:58 pm

C'mon Empress. Had they sent 2001 certificates you would have been *****ing about them being of little use with just two months to go, and besides there are hundreds of them floating around FT. I know you are very upset, but maybe it is time to chill out for a while. Go off on your trip and forget these matters til you get home. There is more to life than Aeroplan, and people have been known to survive flights in the back cabin.

It's a new year. Be positive, put your energies into something that really matters.

Then kindly explain to me how come AC can't print one extra line in that Dec statement telling us to watch out for the new upgrade policies? Do you think we would be seeing all the annoucements lately if not for the media?

This is probably a good thread to ask about my certs I got in my Jan. statement.

I wasn't Elite last year so I wasn't expecting any upgrade certs, but I got 6! The only explanation on my statement was "Congratulations! You have reached the next Threshold Bonus level"

I finished the year with just over 35,000 q-miles - about 16,000 or so in December. So why'd I get 6? Does January flying count?

Yulse Feb 17, 2002 8:44 pm

You get 4 at 20,000 and two more at 30,000 since you did not go over 20,000 until the end of the year they sent them to you all at once. Enjoy them if you are willing to pay for H and play the lottery.

Tax Dude Feb 17, 2002 10:01 pm

I'm just wondering why I got _any_ since I wasn't Elite in 2001. My wife, who had flown 32,000 prior to Dec, flew another 4,000 and reached Elite on the same flight as me. But she got no certs. Curious.

I will likely end up "playing the lottery" this year because I'm so disorganized and will end up booking a flight too late for any more discounted fares!

Tax Dude Feb 18, 2002 6:25 am

I suppose what happened was that they did their "who's Elite" update in January before they did their "who gets certs" run. So I "became" Elite before they looked at the threshold bonuses and qualified for 6 as explained by Yulse above. My wife had already passed 30K so she didn't get any.

Air Canada always used to do everything for SE and you were so used to extra benefits that you never bothered to read the rules of U/G etc. Every time you came to the airport, anything you asked for was delivered most of the time. Example, SE comes to me, GA, wants to U/G himself plus 4 friends. Has all appropriate CERTS but I only have 5 seats left. When I explained that as Aeroplan member you can only U/G one companion travelling with you on same flight and it is PRINTED on the certs in bold letters he got mad at me, called me names... but I am SE bla bla bla. Don't you think that E,P need a chance sometimes too. If there's Comp U/G or any misconnections you're the first one we look after. Not all of you may have received this kind of service but that's how it should've been. The funny thing is that now that AC is loosing money and we as employees are trying our best to keep our customers happy and satisfied some people complain about not getting 2 CERTS when they're not even entitled to... People that work in IT will understand that once you make a program to do one thing it costs a lot of money to update it etc. Do you really think that there is somebody looking at your balance and waiting for you to reach 10K so that they can mail you those certs. I certainly don't think so but what I know is that computer knows when you reach +-10K what to do. With approx 300 000 SE,E,P in 2001 how many employees do you need to send out CERTS. C'mon people we're all adults here just think about it...

Thanx for your time

Everything? What everything? What extra benefits? As far as I know, all our benefits are listed in the membership guide so you've got to tell me what "extra benefits" you're talking about that we don't know about and how AC does "everything" for us.

Somehow I don't believe your example about an SE asking for 5 upgrades and there just happens to be 5 J left. If you are going to give us a lesson, come with something more credible.

Yes, I think that's what happens.

If AC took away your benefits don't blame me I know what our duty is towards our top valued customers. I gave you an example from real life and I certainly wasn't giving you a lecture. As I can see from here most of people like you reach status on AC so you can get hammered at the MLL and do some work and then you b*tch about AC all year long and how we're giving you lectures when we say no. I came here to help some people with whatever I can but I think it was a mistake I'll just help Kitty get his Elite Status if I can and I'm done with this forum

ACDUDE Not so fast! You are entitled to your views. Some of us appreciate your contribution to this board.

I too am disgusted by the "shorted certificates" argument and you make some good points about the computer system not being designed to dish out upgrade certs if you are "close" to a 10K threshold. In this regard I'm quite happy to know that for every 10K Q-Miles I fly I get 2 certs -- simple. If I'm 1 Q-mile short -- well stupid me -- I should have changed a routing or something to put me over.

The attacks you are getting are from just a few individuals on this board....

BULL!!!! Plus or minus -- I don't think so. Can you substantiate this? Or are you making this up just like the RD email address statement above? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
