Upgrading on codeshare flights

Hello!

I was wondering what rules apply to codeshare flights. My trip is from YYX to GRU with TAM operated by AC. If my fare permits, can I try upgrading my flight with AC? If positive, can it be done trough the AC upgrade interface?

Thx!

I believe that you can only upgrade at the gate for code share flights operated by AC.

Actually, that is incorrect - you can do it at OLCI time and request it in the AC OLCI interface.

Even if you are flying from somewhere that AC does not operate e.g. XXX - FRA - YOW you can start the check-in process using FRA - YOW and request the u/g and then bail on the check in and the u/g will still be in place and then go OLCI with the carrier that is starting you off in XXX.

So basically I wait for the checkin notice 24 hours before and from there I upgrade? Is that correct?

Correct, do the OLCI at aircanada.com 24 hours before and you'll be able to apply for the eUpgrade as part of the OLCI process.

One last question. My leg is YUL-YYZ-GRU. Is this 24 hours previous to the first leg or for each flight?

AC says of the last leg but that is debatable. I would be online at -24h of the YUL-YYZ, and if it doesnt allow you to check in, then wait for -24h of the YYZ-GRU.

Also you should call in now to see if your TAM fare did translate to a T+ fare on AC, to know if any of your hassles are in vain or not.
