interesting AC destinations which are expensive to get to?

I´m planning to book a RTW ticket and haven´t maxed out the mileage yet. Therefore I was thinking it may be worth it to include some of the AC destinations which are typically expensive to get to.

Of course, I´d prefer destinations which are actually worth visiting for a weekend. (so YYZ-DTW is off the table. I was more thinking of Northern Canada...)

Any suggestions are appreciated!

I can give you an UNinteresting but expensive destination, RDU.

Clearly the most interesting destinations are in New Mexico, Colorado, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Flordia, and Ohio. At least those are the states Mitt Romney and Barack Obama will find the most interesting over the next 6 months!

Some destinations in Northern Quebec (Iles-de-Madelaine), Gander, Goose Bay, Northern BC, Yellowknife (^), Whitehorse...

A few.

I would go to Quebec (but that's just me).

Go to Newfoundland!!!

You can fly AC to Deer Lake and go explore Gros Morne National Park, check out the Viking remains at L'Anse aux Meadows. The province is really beautiful, and the people really do live up to the friendly reputation. I've never been to western NL but very much want to go some day.

St. John's is cool, too, and there are some beautiful old fishing outports pretty close to the city.

You can play midnight golf on the solstice in YZF. Tried it a few years ago - interesting experience. Take your bug dope.

I'll be there next week, but not quite light enough for midnight golf yet.

Did you mean Iles-de-la-Madeleine? Those aren't in northern Quebec. Unless there is a group of islands in northern Quebec with a very similar name.

How about the Queen Charlotte Islands (YZP) in Northern BC or Longyearbyen (LBY) in Arctic Norway?

Great idea. Lovely place to visit - total wilderness, but with hotel options from the dirt cheap to the wildly expensive. Huge value for your points too!

(Although the islands are called Haida Gwaii now - BC Gov't reverted to the traditional name two years ago).
