More eupgrade oddities

I am flying tomorrow on a tranborder flight connecting through YYZ. At 96 h out I requested my upgrade for just the transborder flight...with no R space I was waitlisted. As of this morning, no upgrade was cleared, so I decided to check in. I found out (I think having this experience once prior) that I could only check in for the transborder flight, and not my YOW-YYZ flight...upon calling AC they said it was because I was waitlisted on the other flight. Later in the morning I noticed that one R space seat opened up...so I thought I'd try 'unrequest' my upgrade online and then re-request (for both legs now). I did this, but it still came up online as waitlisted. So, I then phoned AC...the phone rep looked at my booking and told me that I was checked in and that I was not on the waitlist (???). So...she then managed to remove my check-in, and then request the U/G....which was then SUCCESSFUL...for both legs!!!
Does this make any sense? Any similar experiences?
Thx

Makes total sense. Exactly how AC IT designed it to work.

if I was not checked in orginally, went back 'un-requested' the eupgrade and then re-requested....should it have gone through then?

AC IT likes to alternate the delivery of their enhancements in order to increase your level of frustration. More is better.

No -- you still have to do it manually (i.e. request on line or through an agent once you are unwaitlisted--being checked in makes it difficult; being checked in with luggage already going makes it impossible). What happened to you is the common (but dumb) way AC implements this. Hopefully our friends at AC will solve this.

One of the problems of requesting an upgrade at T-7 then being wait listed then checking in then cancelling the check in and re-requesting the upgrade is that if you are not successful, then you have lost your place in the queue at the gate.

Although check in time is only one factor that is considered, it is nevertheless a factor.....

I was waitlisted on a YYZ-YYC flight last Wednesday. My wife (one of my nominees) was also waitlisted as expected. I requested the UG right at the 7 day window. The UG did not clear in advance (surprise) even though J=9 at that time. In the MLL lounge in YYZ, the agent said I was number one on the list (as SE and ACMM) but my wife was much further down the list, which she thought was odd since we were on the same reservation. At the gate, the GA called my name and said there was one seat available due to a misconnect from MIA and did I want it. I said I would take it and let my wife sit there, which was fine with him. Nothing unusual so far, but I've been checking my e-upgrade account daily to make sure the credits were returned to my account and up to now, they still have not been credited back, and in fact, we're still shown as being waitlisted on the flight in question. How AC can have such an incompetent IT department boggles my mind.

Is this true? I have checked in, unchecked myself in several hours later, and rechecked in again, and I still have the same check in number on my boarding pass. I don't know the answer to this one, just asking.

I also had an odd experience at MUC this week. I requested my upgrade at exactly T-7 and credits were removed from my account. I did OLCI at exactly T - 24 hrs from my hotel room in WAW. Upon arrival in MUC, I went to the gate to get my BP. I was told that I wasn't even on the upgrade waitlist! (For the record, I did the exact same thing for my GF who is Elite, and she was waitlisted for the upgrade.)

In the end, I got my upgrade, and she didn't.

... in Munich. Upon arrival at MUC, I asked at check-in about my waitlist status. I was on the waitlist and the agent said the chances looked pretty good. I asked again at the gate about an hour before the flight. Still not cleared, but "still looks good". In the end it didn't clear. This happened even though there were originally 5 J seats, open, and my check-in number was lower than someone else whose u/g did clear . So odd things happen.

On the brighter side, the SD came back and introduced himself, then offered some wine and a cheese plate, so the service was excellent.

How do you find out your check in number or spot on the waitlist?

It's on your boarding pass, the first four digits to the right of:

Folks, if you are experiencing eUpgrade issues, can you report it on the following thread (in details).

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-c...es-thread.html

With date/flight info and detailed description in one centralized location, this will probably help the AC folks investigate further.
