Exclamation Upgrades: avoid FRA-YYC and vv!!

The upgrade chances have become awful. The LH flight cancellation along with high amount of business travelers have made this flight very hard to upgrade. As a SE, on last Wednesday, I was so lucky to get a seat - J0, but someone no-showed! This Wednesday FRA-YYC it's J1. Tuesdays are still OK, but the rest of the week it's pretty full.

I think I'm moving somewhere - I don't know where, maybe YUL? Which city still has good odds?

It's either YYC/YYZ/YUL if on AC metal.

Below is what R/J/C/D/Z shows for next Sun based on 7 day SE upgrade eligibility window:-

Code:
YYZ Toronto Pearson Intl ON CA [CYYZ]
FRA Frankfurt Metro / Intl DE = FRA HHN [EDDF]
SUN 26 Feb 2012

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability
--------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- -----------------------------------------------------------------
AC 872 YYZ 17:30 FRA 07:00 77W R0 J5 C0 D0 Z0 Y9 B9 M9 U9 H9 Q9 V9 W9 S9 T9 L9 K9
AC 876 YYZ 22:10 FRA 11:55 333 R0 J9 C9 D6 Z1 Y9 B9 M9 U9 H9 Q9 V9 W9 S9 T9 L9 K9
Code:

AC 874 YUL 17:30 FRA 07:00 333 R0 J9 C9 D2 Z0 Y9 B9 M9 U9 H9 Q9 V9 W9 S9 T9 L9 K9
Code:
YYC Calgary Intl AB CA [CYYC]
FRA Frankfurt Metro / Intl DE = FRA HHN [EDDF]
SUN 26 Feb 2012

Carrier Flight From Depart To Arrive A/C St Availability
--------- ------ ---- -------- ---- -------- --- -- -----------------------------------------------------------------
AC 844 YYC 17:40 FRA 11:15 333 R0 J0 C0 D0 Z0 Y9 B9 M9 U9 H9 Q9 V9 W0 S0 T0 L0 K0
You are right, YYC-FRA flight availability is worst among the 3 cities.

I agree that with the demise of the LH flight, YYC-FRA is looking pretty bad. I did however manage to get a confirmed upgrade on latitude, and an IKK seat also, on last Friday's flight.

On the way back, best I could do was through LHR and YYZ. Still waitlisted for the YYZ-YYC leg. With three J seats on that E90.

But then last week on a YYC-YOW E90, on a T+ fare, at thge 7 days cutoff, it was J0, and still got the lasst empty J seat. So who knows.

My problem is also that my traveling companion's preferences are a more direct route in Y vs a "convoluted" route in J. Also problematic is the unwillingness to pay change fees.

They have all so been substituting a 767 on this route from the A330. I had my father nominated at the 7 day window and it was J9 and wait listed (AC845 on a 767). At two days it moved to J0 when the aircraft was switched. No upgrade.

I was worried about my upcoming YYC-FRA flight this Thursday, but KVS shows R9 J9 and the E upgrade window just opened, I called and secured the upgrade, and KVS is still showing R9 J9! ^

Well, it certainly wouldn't be YVR, where AC offer less service to Europe than they did 35 years ago (1975 they had daily 747-100 service)

Has pissed me off for years that LH dictates what routes AC can run. Insane that AC doesn't have a daily direct YVRFRA flight.

I would rather connect via LHR or DFW though.
Especially with EUR11

Routing through LHR is more expensive. Not sure why you proposed DFW as OP is trying to fly AC metal (presumably for upgrades - did you read his original post?). Whats EUR11?
