Upgrade priority at the gate

Disregarding LMU issue. For R0 flights with available J seats (at check-in time), is the priority still status, followed by booking class, and followed by check-in time?

I think international connections also play a role, even though it doesn't seem to be working in my favor right now.

Currently at YYZ hoping to clear the upgrade on my last segment of FRA-YYZ-LAX. It's not looking good as J=2, and apparently there are lots of other SEs ahead of me. I couldn't check in early because I was in flight from FRA-YYZ yesterday.

Remember ,you are doing these MRs for SE status so you can sit in the comfort to which you have become accustomed

How do you know there are a lot of SEs ahead of you?

Do they still take into account check in time?
I thought that was done away with when they switched to eUpgrades and transfer the waitlist.

That's also what I thought and there is another thread all about how doing OLCI before an upgrade clears may get you caught in the glitch wherein R>0 without your upgrade clearing.

This has been asked many times before but never officially answered. Maybe ACTT can answer this. I usually check in early just to avoid any surprises if I am still waitlisted.

For what it's worth, I was on the waitlist for YVR-YYZ yesterday, R3, and I wasn't cleared automatically. This was less than 20 hours before departure, and I did not do OLCI (decided to check in at the counter at YVR.)

It would seem that you don't necessarily need to do OLCI to be caught by the "glitch."

I just got the last J seat on AC 25 today. I had a tight connection and got to the gate about 50 minutes before the flight. The gate agent said to me quietly "it's hockey day. There's one seat left and we picked you.

The flight was J1 R0 this morning. I am on booking class W.

Thank you FT for all that I have learned from here the last year and half.

Hmh. I've heard that it's somehow related to int'l connections too. Don't know how on earth it works though.

Any connecting flight moves you up the list. For example, if you are doing yyz-yul-cdg you will be ahead of anyone of the same status just doing yul-cdg.

Regarding the R>0 glitch. It has nothing to do with whether or not you've checked in or not. Within 24 hours it will never hand over the inventory. Happened to me again on Friday, but I was able to remove and re-add myself to grab the seat online.

I mentioned to the concierge and asked if they were ever going to fix and she said that it will only get fixed if the SEs complain.

I realize there are other long threads somewhere on this but could you please summarize the issue here (ie you mention the handing over of inventory)? I am wondering what I am doing wrong as seem to be missing a lot of upgrades recently on T+ fares with a lot of J seats available. If there are no R seats available at T-7days, any advice to make sure I am near the front of the que for at the gate upgrades? Are upgrades sometimes done during OLCI (other than LMU)?

The gist of it is that although AC claims that the waitlist is transferred to the airport rather than the old system, where it started again, that is not (always?) happening. So the original waitlists are not clearing. What is not evident is whether the previous system system of a new airport waitlist, based on time of check-in, is still there. There are some indications that it might not be, so the whole question of how waitlist pax are dealt at T-24 is a mystery.
