For those of you that recently qualified for plat based on this offer, check to see if your status still shows plat.

My status flipped from plat and club on mar 1st and apparently this is a well known issue -- without a fix yet. You can call in and ask them to manually bump you back up to plat.

 

Yes, it happened to me also and was rectified with a phone call. I also received an email welcoming me as a Club Member for 2012, so it remains to be seen how long it takes to get the Platinum package.

 

I'm thinking late April/early May.

After getting my 2012 certs on 2/27 as mentioned earlier, and getting them extended for a month so I could actually use some of them, I was quite happy. A few days ago, I looked again, and all I had in my account was the same certs, but now valid to 2/28/2013! Someone had simply extended all of them, leaving me only with this year's version.

After yet another phone call (at least they pick up instantly and are all very polite) and a personal intervention by the proper person, voilŕ!, a whole pile of certs expiring 3/31/2012 as well as those for 2/28/2013.

Even the people at the FPC desk emphasized that it is definitely up to us to verify things and call them if corrections are needed. They fully acknowledge that their system is somewhat broken in this regard.

Now how do I ensure I stay enough nights at Fairmont to retain the status past this year where I'm usually much more of a Best Western type person?

 

Zero. Your status is good until Dec 2013.

(Mind you, I expect we will all have to call in at the beginning of March 2013.)

 

So I book the Fairmont Peace in Shanghai on their best rates best dates promo, and now find out that you can't use upgrade privileges on those rates. Ironic, since I have stayed at a couple of Canadian properties (eg Jasper at a $129 rate and the Empress on AE redemption) and with no status at all, was given some amazing rooms. Now that I am Fairmont Platinum, I feel I am a real nobody.

 

Yes, unfortunately rooms booked via the Great Rates Great Dates promo rate are not upgradable using certs. If you want to avoid similar disappointments, you may find the master FAQ in the Fairmont forum helpful.

GRGD is the only rate bookable via the Fairmont website which isn´t upgradable using certs, but you may still receive a comp. upgrade as a Platinum member (not a published benefit, but some hotels do go above and beyond and treat their Plat members welll).

 

The promotion was for status through 2012 and 2013 but the card received last year had an end of February 2013 expiry. Will we be getting new cards for 2013? I certainly didn't stay enough nights at Fairmonts to otherwise requalify.

 

Same here, only 4 paid nights in 2012. This promo was not a real money-maker for Fairmont at all, but such is life.

Does anyone have the T&Cs of the promo still available? I just would like some ammunition when I call FPC early March to inquire....

 

All status cards expire on February 28, 2013. I´d recommend logging into your FPC account mid-March and check your status and whether new certs have posted. If yes, everything is fine, if not I´d send them an e-mail.

 

Is there any further update on whether this program will be continued past Feb 2013?

Looking at staying a few nights at PVG in February with the plan to use the free night in the Caribbean later in the spring.

 

Nope, no info yet afaik, as the new top tier partner program benefits haven´t been published yet.
