Do Eupgrades expire?

Do Eupgrades expire at the end of the following February like the old paper ones?

As per your eUpgrade statement, any and all eUpgrades currently in your eBank expire after Feb 29, 2012 - just like Certs did in the old days.

The question is, when does AC start issuing eUpgrades that expire at the end of February 2013 - hopefully well before Jan 1, 2012!

Other question would be, if you can combine eUpgrades expiring 2012 with ones expiring in 2013. This way one could use up some of the leftovers...

In other words, would eUpgrades have a start date?

I think it is unfortunate that these expire and that is why I planned carefully to use all of mine. Remember sometimes we had leftover certs in previous years because they also expired, so same prinicpal here.

If E-ups expire, wouldn't AE points expire too?

What's different is that with the certs, FT members had access to the number on the cert in Nov or December so could buy upgradable at purchase tickets for the next membership year and upgrade without having to play aerolotto.

When time came to use the cert (i.e. in April), we had the certs in hand even though they weren't in hand when we bought the tickets. Now we can't upgrade until the ecredits are posted to our account.

This change in policy cost Air Canada two upgradeable fares to Budapest this past summer. I wanted to buy the tickets in December or early Jan but couldn't be guaranteed an upgrade. So I emptied out my account to snag reward travel on *A partner flights.

Issue comes up every year. In the good old days, switch occurred Dec. 1. But in the last few years (maybe eight years or so), has been around Jan. 1.

Question arbitrage of AP eUpgrade credits

Yes. A more interesting ? is can I give my upgrade credits to a friend? The answer is no - unless of course you designate said friend as one of 2-4 (E-S/E) nominees prior to Feb 28, 2012.

I used to regularly do so. Hence, the eUpgrades are slightly more restrictive, from this perspective at least. On the other hand, you don't need the paper which is an improvement.

FlyerTalk is a good place to trade expiring eUpgrade credits. Any takers?

I am not as smart as you. I have 192 e-credits and they will most likely all be lost at February 29th,2012.

I used mine for my trips and also used them for my dad and my sister. I know that if I dont they will all be taken away. Don't you have any good friends or family you can share them with? I added 2 nominees to my list. You don't have to be smart to do this just common sense.

Mrs.acysb87 is 1st nominee.I have been using J class AE tix for her.
Mom acysb87 is 2nd nominee. She had to cancel a flight where I had her upgraded due to her sister passing away.

Last two spots are open for 2 young adults who will be travelling to BGI from YVR in February who I will attempt to u/g but the odds of getting the u/g are not good.

On that note, is it particularly hard to upgrade in February because of people unloading their certs/credits? Or is it balanced out by the fact it's February and a less busy travel month?
