Priority

Why does AC place 'Priority Tags' on baggage? Does this mean it comes off first? Last week on short haul YYC YVR, my priority bag came off dead last?

What is the purpose of that tag?

It's a vindictiveness alert. Once the baggage handlers see that, they know it's some uppity SE/E customer or someone with more money than sense paying for J class. This helps them to decide where to load the bags.

My experience has been about 50/50 with my bags being the among the first down the chute.
Some places like T2-Transborder claim it doesn't make that much of a difference. All the bags from a given flight will come about the same time.
Though on Tuesday, my bag came out first and last at the same time(only checked bag on flight with 2 people )

It's been getting better lately everywhere except YYZ.

YYZ-YVR on Tue, bags came out among the first batch.

YVR-HKG on Wed, bags were already out after clearing customs. {<10 mins after getting off the plane}

The only time I really notice a problem with priority bag delivery is at YYZ/YUL for connections to USA. In those cases, baggage delivery is so painfully slow, that priority tags are meaningless.

Just last week, travelling YVR-YYZ-MCO-YYZ-YHZ-YVR, at each station (except MCO) our bags were in the first ten.

That being said, I avoid YYZ, and frequently only have carry-on when I do go there.
