Do AC concierges do anything for you that you yourself couldn't do?

I mean, couldn't someone make all the calls, arrangements, etc. for whatever he/she wants done him/herself? Or is the main appeal one-stop shopping for a solution to one's travel problems rather than trying to figure out how to solve it by one's self?

I once had a concierge call me about an equipment downgrade at YVR, which meant losing my J seat on the new equipment. So he offered to put me on an earlier flight, in the J cabin on that flight. This all happened within hours of my departure time. ^

I guess I could have monitored the flight closely myself and wrangled something, but this was one occurrence where I really appreciated what the concierges do.

Absolutely they can do things you cannot do on your own. When our inbound flight was severely delayed, were driven in an electric cart from our gate upon arrival in YVR straight to customs, and onward to our next gate. I dare you to try doing that yourself.

On occasion I've seen the electric cart just sitting there with the key still in it and I've thought, "Hmmm ..."

Never screwed up enough courage to actually do it though!

Yes they have on occasion cancelled hotel reservations for me when they have re-protected me on another flight flight arriving later for example while I am on the plane. They also have called me when there has been an equipment change and asking what seat I would like etc...very helpfull people IMHO.

I've had the concierge organize a quick gate transfer with limited connection time that I would not have been able to do myself.

Once had the Concierge in LHR escort me through the massive security line when I was commecting from elsewhere in Europe....Everybody else in line was connecting too, so there was no jumping the queue....unless you are with the Concierge...

Of course they could.

They could also do the following for themselves:

Cook their meals, clean their houses, do general repairs around the house, cut and fertilize the grass, wash the car and change the oil, look for houses for sale, move their furniture from house to house, etc.

However, some people prefer to have someone do some of these things for them.

the LGA concierges are amazing.

They know when the LGA s**t is going to hit the fan.

I was on a 4.30 flight home, she called me around noon and made it clear I had to be at the airport to catch the 2.30 and proceeded to put me on that fight.

My 4.30pm ended up leaving LGA at 12.30am.

In short, they are awesome.

I too have had the concierge a few times and a few places meet me at the gate and walk me through security and on to my connecting gate.
Also when a flight has been cancelled due to equipment problems when I was already on board, I phoned the concierge desk and had them put me on another flight. This was before they were even informed internally that the flight had been cancelled.

many times the concierge has saved my butt when I have had issues (of no fault of my own) with tight connections. Nice to have them waiting with changed boarding pass and a cart (if needed). Other times, they have done the non-essential but appreciated like escorting me right on board in LHR in advance of all passengers--no waiting in the abysmal gate area. I have had the pleasure of being seated next to them on flights when they were off on their days off and understand what they go through. My hats are off to most of them that have been 99% helpful to me. That says a lot. The 1% who had off days, or were dealing challenging moments around complex issues I can live with. I don't make regular use of them but when I do, it is nice to know they are there to assist.

You shouldn't even post stuff like this, they are awesome and help in so many ways. Maybe if you fly 6 times a year, it's not a big deal, but get out there every week and see how much they help.
I was flying LGA-YYZ last week and when i got to the airport to check-in, my flight was cancelled and the check-in agent said the concierge wanted to see me, she waled me to their office and the agent booked me on the earlier flight and apologized because I did not have an "A" seat on the EMB (which btw is the single in case you did not know) and had to sit me beside someone else in J. I got home earlier and would have never have done this on my own. They're awesome.

And yet another reasone. While connecting in YYC they gathered my checked bags, retagged them and handed me new boarding pass and tags for an earlier flight. That equated to saving me four hours; which is golden to a travelling father of young ones.
