I flew yvr-yyc on t+ back on march 12, crediting my credit to asiana as I always do. I ended up with 426 status miles even back then with the minnum mileage sign removed from the asiana website. I kinda therefore knew that reductions in minimum mileage were coming to AC soon enough. One more reason to stick with the cheapo tango fares for personal travel. (it was only in 2009 when the t/t+ price difference was just 30$ ...)

For our flying needs, it doesn't affect us.. when we fly to YVR, we fly on points.. so never earning them, but just using them.
To tell you the truth, flying for points is a hard way of earning points.. If 250 point deduction is going to have the whole world cave in (and understanding that the principal of the issue is more important than the points), then I would suggest getting a credit card that will earn more points, or new and creative ways of earning more points. For example.. with the new AMEX AeroplanPlus Platinum, I'll be earning 1.25 points up to $10,000 threshold and 1.5 points after. I choose companies who I can charge my credit card to, such as Natural Gas, Electricity, and Water/Sewer.. on pre-authorized cc so I don't have to think about the points being earned. Recently, in a property management company I own, we identified $500,000 of expenses per year I can run through cc, that we haven't been doing so all these years. If points are starting to concern me, then I'm going to start rackin er up. |

Why in the world would anyone w/o status ever opt for T+ over T on a short haul domestic route now? $65+ extra to earn 39 status miles YVR-YYJ is an absolute insult.
F you, AC. |

Is it me, or is there a great opportunity for an airline like Porter to enter the YVR/YEG/YYC triangle?
AC seems to be pouring everything into the YYZ/YOW/YUL/YTZ and given the constant 20/30% discounts they appear to be getting killed as far as competition goes. |
It's so you can buy a day pass for the lounge. 3 hours in the lounge for a (less than) half hour flight!

The enhancements keep coming and coming..

Enhanced again
Just when we thought it would be comfortable to sit down we ENHANCED AGAIN

wow....so they pocket the change?
ie. I fly NH regional, NH gives 500 miles for a 210 mile trip.... then AP keeps the other 290 miles? |

Another "enhancement" - 500 miles now 250 miles
http://www.aircanada.com/en/news/110502.html?src=hp_wn
Effective for travel as of August 1, 2011, the minimum number of Aeroplan Miles accumulated based on distance flown on Air Canada and Star Alliance member airline flights is changing from 500 to 250 miles: For distance flown up to 249 miles, Aeroplan members will earn 250 Aeroplan Miles. For distance flown of 250 miles and more, Aeroplan members will earn miles according to the actual miles flown --- However in a nod to potential outrage: "This new policy will not impact Air Canada Super Elite, Elite and Prestige members, nor customers travelling on Rapidair flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport and Montreal or Ottawa, or between Toronto City Airport and Montreal as they’ll continue to earn a minimum number of 500 Aeroplan Miles." |
