Varig.??

I am flying down to Rio next week on Varig.
AC to lax then Varig on....

I have never flown this airline before, can anyone tell me what they are like, and is there any tips for Brazil.

I know i could have posted this under varig, but you guys are so honest, if not brutal!

Plus Varig have only had 5 post in the last hundred years.

Thanks

RG is excellent short-haul domestic (closer to European standards of service than US/Canada) but I've never been on them long-haul. I've heard people say they're OK in biz, not great but don't think that economy is that great.

In Dec. 98 I flew Sao Paulo to JFK in J - excellent service, meal and amenity kit (everything Gucci). Although the seat never had all the normal electronic controls it was very comfortable.

Enjoy your flight.

I've spent a lot of time on 45 minute hops from GRU to SDU in their 737's..........and that's nothing special.

I've also been on the same leg on a Varig 767 that had just arrived into GRU from LAX........now the seat pitch is really tight on that aircraft. It was the 767 painted in the 500th Anniversary colors that I flew on.

If all their long range craft are configured like that I'd stay away and fly on AC from YYZ to GRU and then to Rio from there. AC's flight is shorter also.

As far as tips go........leave the plastic at home as there is lots of fraud...........I bring 50/50 Amex cheques and cash.
