Angry eUpgrades - about time to know!!

I think that we all agree that it's about time to release the details of eUpgrades. With more and more unimportant tidbits coming out about next years' Top Tier program, like the 10K/5 seg. req., and the recent tweet by Air Canada posted by YEG USER (define GO FAR and get the chance to win 10 eUpgrade credits).

Now, all together:
WHAT IS AN eUPGRADE CREDIT?

I agree with the general sentiment, but let's remember that the status year runs 01 March 2011 to 28 February 2012. It's still early December 2010 right now, so we have a quarter before the new program comes into effect.

Yes I know that most of us have plans that involve flying in spring 2011 and beyond, but most businesses don't announce products & programs a quarter out.

Sorry, I can't take credit for that post, it was YEG Guy, not YEG USER.

I really hope that the upgrade credits work as I suggested in suggestion 22 of this post.

22) Implement a system of electronic upgrade credits in lieu of upgrade certificates. SE/E/P would start the year with different numbers of credits, and different fares/distances would require a different number of credits. For example:

- 1 credit - NA upgrade from Latitude fare
- 2 credits - SW upgrade from Latitude fare OR NA upgrade from Tango Plus fare
- 3 credits - SW upgrade from Tango Plus fare.

For the above credit options Tango Plus fares could be upgraded within the 7/4/2/ window. An additional option could be to spend 1 (or maybe 2) additional upgrade credits to be able to confirm an upgrade from Tango Plus at the time of booking (in advance of the 7/4/2 window).

The key question at the moment is what sort of upgrades will we be getting from the December sweep? Will they be 2010/11 certs or 2011/12 eCredits? If the latter they will not be usable until March, so what happens if we wanted to use these earned upgrades in the last two months of the current benefit year? Can we choose between paper certs or eCredits?

Speaking for a few people... I pray that the eUpgrade system does not require Flash.

+1.. AC/AE's websites use flash a little too liberally. My computer at work doesn't always do so well with it.

Oh Gawd yes!! It hadn't occurred to me that was a danger. I uninstall flash from all my computers first thing. It makes them crash so much less and run so much faster.

I'm a bit confused though. I hadn't noticed any parts of aeroplan's web site that wasn't working due to my uninstalling flash. The award flight search is all ajaxy stuff.

Flight Passes require Flash.

11 months ago it was *impossible* to find out the rules for how they work, unless you had flash installed. The situation has been partially repaired recently -- if you enter that subsystem you can find some information, but many of the drop-down selectors and such are broken and do not adjust pricing information (for instance, for the Canada Passes). But you cannot purchase, or having purchased them then use them, without Flash.

I travel enough to consider such a thing, but guess why I've never bought a flight pass?

If eUpgrades go to flash it is going to affect many types of travellers -- especially those trying to live their lives on smart phones...

What about using mobile.aircanada.com - that doesn't use flash, does it? And does the AC app give you access to flight passes?

Ah, it looks like one could use a flight pass at mobile.aircanada.com. However I don't see a way to get proper information such as rules or pricing, or buy them there.

I'm just saying that if the same "Flash required" mistake is made with eUpgrades it is going to be deeply annoying for many.

And then there's people like me who don't have any travel planned for Jan or Feb. I'm trying to engineer crossing my next threshold on Dec 31 to maximise my chance of getting ecerts I can use instead. Even going as far as burning my last SSWU on a B fare where I'm only going to be upgraded half the trip.

Speaking of which, does anyone know how upgrades and the airport waitlist works if I put another programs number in? I assume I can keep my already confirmed upgrade? Do I get put on the airport waitlist based on the non-status number I'm collecting on?

I believe that you can access an existing flight pass and make bookings, but IIRC you cannot purchase a flight pass using the AC app.

My guess is that if your upgrade is confirmed in advance, you are ok to change the collection to another FFP (although you'll likely need to show your AC *G card at check-in to the agent). If you are waitlisted at the gate, I'd keep the AC number on the file until they get the upgrades sorted out (otherwise you'll be treated as non-status). Once the upgrade comes through, I'd change the FFP number.
