eUpgrades - select privilege?

"This year, our Select Privileges include a long-awaited enhancement – Air Canada eUpgrades. In fact, these electronic upgrades will soon completely replace paper upgrade certificates. If you choose this privilege, a personal account will be set up for you and the eUpgrade Credits deposited there will be valid for travel as of March 1, 2011. To learn more about eUpgrades, click here."

Will this mean I have to give something up in order to choose the eUpgrade option?

I suppose it will be like any other time when you have a choice between various options.

Wow, I like the idea of eUpgrades, but I guess it will depend on what the choices are. Isn't this a standard feature of many other carriers?

I don´t think Elite benefits will change dramatically. You were always able to choose your benefits in a way that you didn´t get any upgrade certs (status miles and tier bonus miles from package 1, status miles and MLL passes from package 2)

Regarding upgrade certs on other airlines: Upgrade certs are a very widespread benefit among NA airlines, but pretty rare with Asian/European airlines.

For instance, AC Es get far more upgrades than LH M&M HON Circle members. LH M&M SEN members get 1 long-haul upgrade every two years.

Ah, I understood it as, for example, choosing between 2500 Status Miles or having the opportunity to use eUpgrades; rather than choosing between 2500 Status and upgrades in general

If that´s the case, I´ll happily stick with my paper certs.

I don´t think there´s a choice between e-upgrades and upgrade certs, as far as I understood the e-mail upgrades in gerneral (now e-upgrades) will remain one option that can be chosen at the beginning of the year.
