Seems like clever marketing and a seat sale rather than anything else

Westjet can spin it how they want, I am sure prices will gradually settle back to where they were before

but it looks good now tied to a press release

I just checked my GDS and so far, AC hasn't matched WS. For instance, the full-fare on WS on YVR-YYZ right now is $609.00 + taxes each way. On AC, a full Y fare is either $1698 or $3116 + taxes each way, depending on how you want to define that.

I don't think the matching would come on the full fare tickets, but rather the low end economy tickets as this is the price that typically is shown through online booking sites. AC can always add additional fare basis and ensure adequate inventory to match WS's full Y price to be competitive for a "last minute" sale.

After waiting all day nothing?

YOW-YXE is still $229 and Westjet is also $229 for mid August! I would book a quick trip home if the price was much lower. Even YUL is the price!

Oh well maybe next time

How many tickets will this actually effect? This is for full fare economy only.

While WS is lowering it's highest fare it's also vowed to do away with seat sales, which will affect the low end tickets to a greater degree. You did read that didn't you? There's more on the thread I started on WS forum on WS's initiative
