Upgrades
I just got off the phone with Air Canada - the policy regarding upgrades is changing. Beginning the 21st of this month we can do a sameday upgrade to J class from ANY FARE (they indicated probably standby basis at first), and then coming in late April, upgrades to J class will be able to be done in advance, like we can do now from V, H, Y, M classes etc.

Congratulations Fisch, you made uncle Milton blink! I assume this policy will apply to CP as well as AC (but not necessarily yet on one another's flights).

I almost don't believe it!
I got thinking though..it might save AC money by saving time with agents having to check class of ticket at both ticketing AND @ check-in AND @ the gate. Think of all the time wasted checking fares and denying people!?!

Its definately going to be standby at the gate for the first month, beginning the 21st. Mid April will bring full reciprical upgrade privileges (being able to book upgrade in advance).
Have the agent read CIC*1/1 on the 15th for complete information if you encounter any problems at the gate.
Have fun!

Thanks Maple Leaf and Employee. Seems like the letter writing and phone calls worked. Kudos to everyone here who did their bit (and I am sure there were a few others off these boards)

The agreement encompasses all three tier levels. Whatever the rules are for certificate use on AC, the same will apply when using them on CP...and vice-versa. I'm not at all familiar with CP's stickers (give a few days though!), but I imagine the restrictions are similar.
The 'standby at gate only' is mainly due to some computer problems they have to work out between RESIII and Sabre.
Last but not least, the reason behind the sudden change: customer feedback and requests. It was also inevitable!
Have fun!

I think I'm scrolling down these post a little too quickly!
I didn't read anything about the "any-fare" upgrade policy changing. What I did read, is the use of AC certs on CP flights and vice-versa, and thats beginning on the 21st of this month. No mention in the updates about changing the fare rules on certs.
I'm not back into work until Saturday, so I'll post any changes then.
