Questions for Seasoned Asia Flyers

Heading to Singapore & Tokyo last week of January. Going to Singapore first and was going to book it through Hong Kong to take advantage of Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 service. Coming back through Narita. Do I take the ANA flight or the United flight? ANA is operated by Air Japan. Thoughts?

Also, do you think I'll have my 2010 SSWU's delivered to me by then?

I would fly SQ or UA, since Air Japan is the low cost carrier of ANA...

I highly recommend ANA, the service onboard is impeccable. I guess you will be in J?
As well, UA has the highest taxes in Asia.
I have done the ANA flight 4 times and do not regret it.
Good Luck.

If you're flying paid J from YYZ, I would suggest you try YYZ - FRA on LH then take the 380 on SQ. Alternatively you can try YYZ - LHR on AC then take the SQ 380.

From NRT you can take AC direct to YYZ.

If you need to use SSWU to upgrade, you should consider AC from YYZ to either HKG or NRT. Upgrading at the end of Jan might not be so bad. As 2009 certs are good until end of Feb, I would not anticipate having 2010 certs in hand until mid to late Feb.

In my own opinion, J seat on ANA intra-asian flight are not very comfortable (not enough recline)…

Take the SQ or ANA flight. Service on UA flights from HKG to SIN is horrid.

UA flight is with 744 or 772? If 744 it will be new seats(full flat like, not herringbone), service/food will be middling to bad! NH will be a 763 , in the Club ANA Asia layout 50 inch of pitch, recliner chair. Service/food will be much better than on UA. If you can snag a SQ J seat on the 380 do, it is magical.

The UA flight between Tokyo and Singapore or HKG only operates once per day and the time is very late in the evening. So unless you want to arrive at HKG or SIN very late, do not take UA.

I booked a flight between SIN-NRT for next year. I picked ANA J over UA F just based on what I've read.
Also, SIN-NRT is offered by a SQ 380. so why connect in hong kong?

I've flown this service and it is similar to regular ANA flights. Would always select an Asian carrier over UA on an intra-regional flight.

Cool word, SH.

The consensus in this recent thread was Air Japan earns AP status miles so go that route over UA would be MHO.

Not sure if this is wise, though....

I was in F recently on HKG-SIN and even switched to a flight that I thought was flying the A380. Despite there being big banners at SQ check-in at HKG promoting the A380 service to SIN, there was no A380 to be seen. Try and be sure that the flight you are on is in fact the A380.
