Dakar Layover
I am looking at a reward ticket to Cape Town. There is a ticket with at 10 hour layover in Dakar. Can anyone advise me on how far the airport is from the city, and what can be done within that time period. My luggage will be checked on the flight to Cape Town, I will just have hand luggage.
Thanks

I took the south african airlines flight through Dakar so never got off the plane and can't offer any first-hand advice. However, there was a recent column on ask the pilot which suggested Dakar airport was among the worst in the world:

Based on the article I'd either advise renting a hotel room or trying to go into town for the lay-over.

The airport is on the north end of the peninsula, on which Dakar sits at the southern end. A cab downtown would prolly take no more than 30 mins, but it really depends on traffic. I understand traffic is a mess there right now because they are redoing some of the roads. You can wander around downtown...theres several markets, can go to Goree Island, or go sit on a beach on the western coast of the peninsula. PM me if you have any specific questions, I studied there for 5 months in 2006.
