Approach into CPT
I'll be flying from JNB to CPT on BA (Comair) in a few days. From what I heard, the approach into CPT is especially scenic. Which side of the aircraft should I sit in order to soak in the views on approach?
Thanks!
Thanks!

There's no way of telling for certain, as the approach will depend on the runway in use and other factors. That said, I've had a darn good view of Table Mountain on the right side during final approach.

Maybe I should rephrase my question. Most of the time, which runway(s) are in use? From there, I can figure out where to sit.
Thanks!

Seeing that you are flying here 'in a few days', I had a quick look at the weather forecast. It looks like Southerly winds until (and including) Saturday the 17th, going North on the Sunday.
If there is a Southerly blowing, you will land on runway 019, that is of course in a Southerly direction. Table Mountain will be on your right on the final approach. Depending on how the earlier approach is routed, the best view will be a bit earlier, especially if the routing is quite far to the North and you approach close to the Western coastline.
If you land in a Northerly direction on runway 01, the mountain is of course on the left, but the view is not nearly as spectacular. You will come in over False Bay and have a 'side on' view of the mountain and you won't see the 'table' effect at all.
So, even if you are not sure about the wind direction, sit on the right!

Don't know about JNB flights, but each time I've flown in from Europe we have circled out over the Cape before landing. So the left side is what you want on those flights. I'm about to try it again next week so we'll see. This reminds me to call and do my seat assignments!

I arrived very early once on a flight from FRA so nobody was expecting us yet (at least that was the pilot's excuse). We came from the North (obviously), flew over the airport out onto the sea again then took a right turn and flew around the Table mountain. We then landed from the North on runway 19. View from the right was great.
Most of the other times, we passed East of the airport, then took a sharp right hand 180 degree turn over the sea and landed on runway 01 from the South. In this case, the table mountain would first be visible from the right, and then from the left shortly before landing.
Same for flights from JNB (although I only flew JNB-CPT twice, so might not be very representative).
