Did I do something wrong? - next stop = Khartoum!!!

My new contract may mean I have to pack up my family and we're off to Khartoum, Sudan.

Has anyone got info about this place. I have browsed the internet but not a lot of English info. Comments appreciated.

Followed in due course by general Kitchener's famous battle (or infamous massacre, depending on your point of view).

I can recommend Dark Star Safari, by Paul Theroux. His chapters on the Sudan will make anybody yearn for the place!

Please be more specific: how long are you going to stay? Have you got lodging already? Is it about food, customs, behaviour, etc, ???

Two year contract, housing supplied etc so no problems there. I am interested in safety, immediate medical facilities, how is customs for importation of goods?

Regards,
Dave

It seems the company or organization you work for is already established. That is good. Upon arrival you probably will receive all infos as far as medical facilities are concerned. The foreign community is well knitted and you'll find help and a lot of advice as soon as you get there. The Red Cross does a great job and have excellent facilities, that is, in Kharthoum.

I suppose you are not automatically going to send a container. Forget alcohol.

I have a list of do's and dont's, but it is in ATL. I'll be back in two weeks and if you wish, I'll email you one. Let me know.

Thanks Mega. I have not signed contract yet so no rush. The no booze rule is a hardship but I'll live.
