A few ‘IFs” in the reporting, but good news anyway.

I agree, and we booked.

I have a pile of hotel points to burn, so we are staying at the Hilton Cape Town City Centre. I rang the Duty Manager who was very reassuring. Without the points, we would probably have gone the B&B route (taking your point).

The water is perfectly fine. City and independent labs do daily water quality tests.
Stomach bugs going round are more likely due to decreased hand washing and food hygiene as a result of water restrictions than anything in the water.
Please use tap water for all your drinking needs, that keeps a huge amount of plastic waste out of our landfills and/or oceans.
