JNB - 45 min connection possible (makes sense) on separate tickets?

I have VFL-JNB award tickets (from United) on SA arriving at 3:15PM. Looking for an option to book separate tickets JNB-GRJ departing 3:50PM.

Is it too risky?

Yes, it is too risky and almost impossible to make such a connection, the official MCT is 1hr

Clear. In this case have to go with Mango.

Anyone wants to share how reliable Mango is?

Since when does Mango operate flights from VFA (I'm assuming you mean Victoria Falls airport, since VFL doesn't exist) or to GRJ?

Thanks for correction. I meant JNB-GRJ on Mango.

Ahh LOL, I was reading this as GRU, my bad
Int-Dom is 1h30 MCT, and will take you considerably more time to clear immigration, change terminals etc., Mango will do just fine on that route.

Haven't flown Mango internationally, but they are great domestically (all of the SA LCC's are great).
Definitely worth building a longer connection time in when coming through JNH arrivals!

Do Mango and SA have interlining agreements?

Looks like their only interline agreement i with SA. I think they are owned by SA FWIW.

You can easily spend 45 minutes in the immigration line alone, depending on which of the various heavies from Europe or the Middle East landed just before you and emptied their mostly non-SA passengers into the immigration arrivals hall. Then you have to get to the right terminal (all within the same large building, but still), and then get through the security line for domestic security. (All of this assuming that the inbound flight isn't delayed) I'm sure if all the stars aligned properly it is physically possible, but I'd sure be sweating bullets thinking about it. I had 3 hours for a recent INTL-Domestic connection at JNB, and I think I ended up with like 30-40 minutes in the lounge before having to go down to my departing flight.
