Transit Visa in Kenya

Hi, all! I will be spending 73 hours in NBO and wanted to apply for my visa in advance. I am a US citizen and will be coming and going via Brussels. Is it possible for me to save the $30 and get the $20 transit visa instead of the $50 single entry visa? And really, once you factor in the amount of time spent in the airport after landing and also in preparation to depart again, that 73 hours drops down to about 67 hours actually inside Kenya.

If it's too risky I'll apply for the single entry visa, but I thought I would ask.

I would personally just do the visa on arrival. Since the airport burned down, the immigration officials have been very, very efficient. I don't think you'll have any problems so long as you have the visa fee

No I was there earlier this year and it's valid for up to 3 days. I was also there in 2012 for 3 days and was told it wasn't possible for me as I was not using Kenya as a transit. Therefore had to pay the $50 visa fee instead of the $20.

Hope this is useful.

We had to pay $50 for 48 hr transit 1 week post fire--if the immigration is still on the tarmac in tents, be sure your line really has a terminal at the front of it...there were more lines than stations when we arrived which led to a lot of high school kids pushing in our experience. We were last to go through the formailites, though, and it only took about 30 minutes
