A question...

Now that I have your attention, I would like to ask a certain question. In this Africa travel-related forum, a lot of topics centre around trips to South Africa or Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, even Sudan and other countries in Africa worth mentioning. However, I have not yet seen a thread on travel to Algeria. Why is that? I want to know your opinions on what you think of it? What do you know about Algeria or why is there practically no reviews or even small discussions about it? It kind of seems to be ignored from the rest of Africa (in my view) and when people talk about travel to North Africa it is not even mentioned as a destination.

However, this topic is not for me get advice to travel there, because I am native from there now living in the US. I already know about things there, but I would like to get the peoples opinions as to why it seems to ignored or not even mentioned at all. I want to know from your point of view.

Google "tourism in Algeria." A country that gets fewer tourists will generate less chatter than a more popular tourist destination.

Maybe the better question is: What steps is Algeria taking to increase tourism and foreign business investments in the country?

According to this article, "Algeria's tourist industry lags behind that of its neighbors Morocco and Tunisia. Algeria receives only about 200,000 tourists and visitors annually. Ethnic Algerian French citizens represent the largest group of tourists, followed by Tunisians."

Given that Flyertalk is an English-language message board & the majority of Algeria's tourists probably don't speak English as a first language, that's also probably contributes to the lack of discussion about Algeria on Flyertalk.

I had the same idea in mind. French is only understood by those who are fluent and live a lifestyle speaking the language. The majority of the world predominantly speaks English. But everything you said pretty much sums up what I had in mind. Same opinion. Really, its a shame that they do not focus on tourism as it could help so much on an economic view. My view is that they just have not done enough to put themselves out there in the world. Currently the largest country in Africa (since Sudan split) yet no attraction.
