US Pre-Clearance in DUB - Checked Baggage?

I have been to DUB countless times as a domestic/Schengen passenger but not international. For the pre-clearance process, does US Customs inspect checked baggage? My first flight originates in Madrid with a 2.5 hour connection before the onward flight to IAD. I would assume that pre-clearance formalities do not require collection of checked baggage as this would have to take place airside. And I assume that checked baggage arrives on a domestic belt in the US which helps to avoid all the queues typical in Customs.

Your bag will be through-checked to the US, and inspected by US CBP in Dublin. When you go to the US immigration officials in Dublin Airport, they will bring up a photo of your bag which you will have to attest if it's yours or not, and they'll ask if you have anything to declare. If your bag is 'flagged' somehow, they'll have it set aside already.

In the US, you get off as a domestic pax, and bag either transfers on to the next US destination or, you just go pick it up like any domestic pax.

You are no longer shown the photo of your bag. I have cleared twice in Dublin this year, i was not asked to identify my bag.

FYI: Ireland is not a Schengen state and all Aer Lingus flights (except to Carrickfinn) are "international".

Seems like that stopped around the same time as the second security check.

That's what it looks like anyway!

I appreciate the info, as well as the other posters stating that the bag photo is no longer a thing. It makes sense that the inspection takes place at DUB and I was curious on how those logistics work for connecting passengers since you would normally "claim" your bag before entering the USA! For pre-clearance, they CBP officer asks the same questions as if they were physically in the USA with the upside being you don't have to deal with any checked baggage until the final destination in the US. I like easy!

I went through DUB pre-clearance last month and was asked to identify my suitcase by photo as part of the process -- so it seems like this could definitely vary.

If you are super quick on a transfer to get to the CBP desk before the bag gets into the system there may be no photo. If you check in at Dublin the bag should get photo taken at the time of tagging.

As far as I understand it what has changed is that the CBP no longer ask every passenger to verify the photo of their bag. But I believe the photo is still taken. I flew last month and wasn’t asked to verify my bag, but the CBP officer upon handing back my passport told me to enjoy my golf vacation. I’d checked a golf bag which he could clearly see on screen. Or else he was clairvoyant 😁.

I noticed that it was no fingerprints, then I got a new Passport, then they took fingerprints and then afterwards it was back to none.

You are correct, once you always had to do it.

The fingerprints thing is quite simple the have migrated to a facial recognition model
1. First time or new passport you get fingerprints and photo
2. If not first time its just the photo
