How long are morning immigration queues at DUB?
How long are the typical immigration queues at DUB arriving from BOS at 5:00 am or 8:00am?
We'll be flying BOS-DUB with our 3 kids and we're trying to determine whether to sit closer to the front so we can get through immigration more quickly, or if we can go with our usual plan of sitting towards the rear (to have a better chance of getting an empty seat between us). We have the option of taking flights that arrive at DUB at around 5 am or 8 am. Is there much of a difference between those times?
Alternatively, we could also fly in Shannon if the arrival experience and immigration is that much better. As we'll we doing a tour around Ireland it doesn't matter so much where we start.

For the non-EU queue, my observation has been that queue length is dependent on actual ordering of arrivals. If you land first, you're in good position
E.g; at 0500, the following flights are scheduled tomorrow (data from FlightAware):
EI136 from BOS @ 0455
EI104 from JFK @ 0500
EI122 from ORD @ 0505
EI118 from IAD @ 0505
EI128 from YYZ @ 0520
There's also a tranche around 0800:
UA152 from ORD @ 0740
EY45 from AUH @ 0750
EI138 from BOS @ 0755
DL176 from ATL @ 0805
EI108 from JFK @ 0830
AA722 from PHL @ 0835
(and a bunch of EI shorthauls that go to T2)
A swing of +/- 30min is not unheard of given ground factors, airspace routing, etc. That being said, Dublin immigration is usually quite swift.
If you've an EU/EEA passport then it's very swift indeed.

The worst time in Dublin T2 is typically 1100-1200 when a stack of EI EU flights land.
Passport checks are quick, guessing you are travelling on a US passport so should be very smooth and quick (and a lot easier than entering the US...)
Reality is even if you get through with no delay you will still be waiting for your bags typically 15 minutes at least from doors open till bags start to appear on the carousel
