Aer Lingus cabin crew in strike ballot threat over new SNN TATL services!

Its not Aer Lingus without the threat of a strike sure its not

Aer Lingus cabin crew in strike ballot threat

Cabin crew at Aer Lingus have threatened to ballot for industrial action in a dispute over crewing of new transatlantic services from Shannon commencing in January.
Eighty-six Aer Lingus cabin crew based at Shannon face uncertainty over their jobs in a row over outsourcing of more frequent flights using smaller Boeing 757 aircraft.
The airline accused the cabin crew union IMPACT of missing an opportunity for job creation by refusing to operate more frequent transatlantic flights from Shannon on aircraft leased from an external supplier.
Management has warned the union that as a result there will be a surplus of staff at the Shannon base.

One might say they are lucky to get a B757! After all its better than no service at all. Its a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't.

It sounds like the dispute is over how many flight attendants should be on the 757. Aer Lingus wants four and the union wants five. The Aircraft holds 177 passengers. How many cabin crew do most airlines operate on transatlantic service?

I think most other 757 TATL operators have 5, so EI are cutting it tight with 4. Suppose it is a mix of keeping costs down on what may be a marginal route (at least until better established) and setting a precedent for future staffing ratios (A350).

If this happens, TATL 757's with outsourced crews will ruin the excellent A330 Y product reputation.

As DELLAS suggests, the alternative could be closing the routes.
