SKG lounge
Hi there people,
Preparing my annual "4-flight visit to Greece" , I have a question:
I have a potential 6-hour layover in SKG (I say potential because I haven't bought the ticket yet), so I am wondering. Do you think it is possible to leave a cabin-sized bag and maybe a jacket at the lounge lockers for a few hours while I go for a 3-hour stroll in Thessaloniki?
The question encompasses two factors: the lockers size itself and how mindful are the lounge staff...
TIA!

I don't recall there being any lockers in the lounge, but there used to be paid luggage storage at the airport. This would certainly be a far better bet than trying to find somewhere in town.
Taxis to the centre are probably around 15-20 Euros, and take about 20 minutes. The bus takes about 45 minutes running half-hourly, but is not the most reliable mode of transport in terms of keeping to the timetable, so either build in some time or be prepared to pay for a taxi back if the service you plan to use doesn't show up.

As far as I can tell, there actually are lockers in the SKG lounge. They should fit hand-luggage sized items, though I've never used them so I cannot comment on that.
You'll find them to your right, after entering the main area. They partially appear at the right end of this picture, and with some effort you'll see them in that one too, next to the lady.

There is also an question with reaching the lounge itself and getting landside again. You'll arrive from the first flight landside, and certainly there's no issue with getting through security twice - it's just a manual boarding pass check - but I'm not sure what the procedure would be to exit airside to landside. Not something I've ever tried ...
From a time viewpoint, this might just make the landside storage more practical if it's inexpensive.
For a 3-4 hour visit to the city, I'd recommend the White Tower and Ataturk's House - both just about doable at a push, but probably needing a taxi rather than the bus.

Thank you all for the info, folks. I managed to do that, get into the lounge go to the city and return a few hours later a few times (JFK and LIS come to mind), but if there are lockers at the airport, I believe I should waste no time and move into the city asap.
Also, I'm figuring it might be a good idea to pay the EUR26 difference and fly ATH-SKG on A3 instead of FR and check the bag all the way to RHO, the next stop after SKG. Is the breakfast at the LH lounge worth the 26 EUR? The whisky surely does, but drinking at 6AM is not part of my habits

No, but getting a few hundred miles, through-checking bag, free yoghurt and drinks on board, better seat selection, and some semblance of priority boarding on A3 plus lounge food may be worth EUR 26

You forgot the most important case for flying A3: not flying Ryanair!

Ok, you convinced me. I combined the ATH-SKG leg with the previous one, BEG-ATH, and managed to get a good price for a S class ticket on a famous website, as I couldn't book directly on A3's own.
The funny thing is that the ATH-SKG leg disappeared after I asked for an upgrade with a coupon and I had to call customer service to solve the problem. Now everything set for a 6 hours stop in SKG.
Thank you again for all the tips and hints!

Arriving and departing within Schengen but can't remember if you get dumped airside.
Tripadvisor from late 2017 says no (paid) left luggage at the airport. If that is true, where else could I store luggage?

Untill November there was a paid 'storage luggage' service at the far right of the building exiting the arrivals. Not sure if its still in operation because of the new terminal construction.
Aegean lounge is on the airside, there is no transit area in SKG so you have to get out of the arrivals, go upstairs and pass from security check again

There are lockers in the lounge. Probably not the size of a carry-on bag, but certainly enough for a laptop bag.
I found the lounge really nice. It was almost empty yesterday morning. Adequate f&b offering and nice staff.
The lounge boarding is limited to Schengen destinations only.

I'm planning to visit SKG for 7 hours, anyone know if this is possible now?

Or you could rent a car (paid 7 EUR last time!) and just drive to Peraia for some lunch by the sea (or take a taxi) or go into SKG town.
Or you walk to the Casino next to the airport (probably 15 Minutes walk) and try your luck
