Thanks for this scoop!
The Four Points in Penang isn't a great location.
(Then again the Banayan Tree should open next year... Let's see if by then they may have combined the programs).

Very interesting news about the Four Points by Sheraton Penang becoming a Mercure. I have stayed there several times and found it very poorly managed. Is badly in need of a renovation too. Hopefully the owner will get moving now that it is becoming a Mercure. Very good news.

Very happy to hear that a Banyan Tree will open in Penang and will be much happier if they do join Le Club next year.

One senior hotel manager recently told me that the Movenpick hotels are expected to join Le Club within a matter of months. There is one in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The acquisition has only just recently become official.
It will take at least another 6 months before you see them on the accorhotel website.

Just saw this posted on the new Marriott page (Four Points by Sheraton Penang thread):

************************

Four Points by Sheraton Penang is no longer part of Marriott International

received this email today:

As a valued Starwood Preferred Guest member, we are writing to inform you of a change in the status of the Four Points by Sheraton Penang. As of September 30th, 2018, the property is no longer part of Marriott International and will no longer participate in the Marriott program.
We see you are currently holding a reservation XXXX. We are pleased to advise you that the hotel will honor your reservation and room rate as it was originally confirmed. However, since the hotel will no longer be affiliated with the Marriott system, you will not earn points for any eligible charges incurred, nor will you receive any of your Marriott membership amenities or benefits. We realize this may be disappointing but hope we can count on your understanding.

MGallery Athens (date not mentioned)

Lampsa Hellenic Hotels SA, which owns the Grande Bretagne and King George located in the heart of Athens on Syntagma Square, is bringing another luxury hotel brand to the Greek capital in cooperation with French hospitality company AccorHotels.

According to an announcement, Lampsa has agreed to include the property that once housed the historic Kings Palace in Athens into the upscale MGallery brand collection of hotels, which is run by AccorHotels....

Just saw this on the Marriott page:

"Le Meridien Tahiti changing to Sofitel next weekJust got an email from Le Meridien Tahiti that effective Oct 15th, they will be changing ownership to a Sofitel by Accorgroup. While they say that all rates and conditions remain the same, curious how Marriott elite benefits will work. Hopefully this doesn't mean that any more Marriott hotels in that area will be switching...

There are many Sofitel projects far behind schedule in China like the Auckland Sofitel So.
I am waiting for 3 in particular.
Sofitel Zhuhai, Sofitel Wuhan and Sofitel Changsha. Also a number of Pullmans are like 3 years behind the original opening time with no news of if they ever will open.
