I am definitely back on the roads (or I should rather say in the air !). To enjoy our recovered freedom to travel domestically, what’s better for a French to go to Corsica in June ??

And it’s been forever that I had been in Corsica, the Island of Beauty, so let’s go !!  It was such a nice feeling to fly again and arrive in this heaven and enjoy beaches, bars and restaurants after those horrible months. 
 

I wanted to go to the beautiful Sofitel Porticcio where I haven’t been for ages due to the atrocious high rates they are charging now for several years (300-400€) thinking that they may be lower with the crisis, but the hotel is still closed and will reopen only on 10/07.

So I choose the Mercure Ajaccio Centre. It’s location is not the best (it is near the ferry harbors) but not too bad : you have to walk about 1,5 km to be in the heart of downtown and about 3km to go to the main beaches.

Check In

The hotel main building (on the street) is under renovation, but they have a brand new building at the back on the pool deck and this is where customers are lodged. The hotel reopened last Monday and occupancy is still low (when I arrived, I believe only about 5 rooms were occupied and was up to about 20 when I left). Flights to Corsica are already packed, which is a good sign. 

For Covid measures, I am in the opinion that this hotel has taken appropriate measures and not « crazy » ones. Way of circulation are there, disinfectant gel everywhere, virucid product to use by customers to disinfect pool chairs after use. Housekeeping is maintained normally. Breakfast is served in-room or at the pool deck (but on a tray, as in-room).

Very courteous check-in. The employee was obviously happy to see again some customers. She explained me all the measures. I had booked a privilege room, pool view and got that but with a terrace which was quite nice. I had to ask for the drink voucher and it was given without problem.

Room

Room was in the new building as explained above. The room was large, well equipped and everything looks very new. Safety box, bathrobe, slippers and Nespresso machine in room. A sofa and a desk and the deck with 2 chairs. All very quiet. Housekeeping done every day as usual. Bed was very comfortable. Absolutely nothing to complain about.

Pool

The pool is small but it’s nice to have it. About a dozen pool chairs + a lot of additional seating behind. There is a bar there but it was not open during my stay. 

There is no restaurant in this hotel but you have tons of options in town. 

I have sincerely nothing to complain about this hotel apart the thing that there was no real « hotel life » but I think the current circumstances explain that.

Overall

I got late checkout until 4 pm. 

Overall a very decent hotel where I have been able to enjoy beautiful Corsica for the time of a weekend
