Sofitel So, Singapore, Singapore
The new Sofitel So is housed in one of Singapores rare gems, the former Eastern Extension Telegraph building, dating from 1927. Interiors are by local design firm Miaja and the hotels signature designer Karl Lagerfeld. Highlights include a dramatic hexagonal light installation in the lobby and a gold-tiled infinity rooftop pool.

Opening Date: June 2014; Rates: From SGD $130

Address: 35 Robinson Road; tel: 65.670 16800; www.sofitel.com

Sofitel, Dubai Downtown, United Arab Emirates

Sitting in a neighbourhood of giants (the Burj Khalifa is across the road), the new Sofitel Dubai Downtown is connected to the Dubai Mall and its metro station by an air-conditioned glass bridge. Taking inspiration from the op art movement of Victor Vasarely, the faade is a blue mirror of its surroundings, while the rear is finished in sandy marble.

Opening date: May 2014; Rate: From AED850

Address: Sheihk Zayed Road; Tel: 971.04 503 6666 (UAE); www.sofitel.com

130 SGD? that's around 100 USD, right? That seems waaay too low for any half-decent hotel in Singapore really, even on a heavy heavy discount.. Or did I miss something?
