The Shenyang Lido Sheraton has been rebranded as Sofitel, eff Jan 1. A pretty run down place even for a Sheraton.
I hope there will be a major renovation, not just a continuation of cosmetic repairs.

Novotel Hotel (Yangon)

Not sure if it will be ready in 2013 but it seems Accor are gearing up for Myanmar

Over on Myanmar Times:
French hotel chain Accor is negotiating to partner with Max Myanmar to open a Novotel Hotel in Yangon, a spokesperson for the Myanmar conglomerate said last week.

The proposed hotel would be established in a Max Myanmar property known as Pyay Tower on Pyay Road. Max Myanmar Hotel Group project manager U Bo Chan Tun said the proposed hotel will have 366 rooms, including 159 rooms in 14-storey Tower A and 207 rooms in 16-storey Tower B.....

Good news, however a Sofitel would be welcomed there
All hotel groups are eying on Burma as none of them are present yet and it's a very fast growing market, especially in Yangon where there is not enough hotel rooms

Project for Novotel in Phnom Penh

I read yesterday in the Phnom Penh post that Nakorn group, Accor local partner in Cambodia with the 2 Sofitel (PNH & REP), was planning a Novotel in PNH. It won't be for 2013 of course.
Sorry I can't provide any link. I tried but the website of this newspaper is working poorly.

More news on Myanmar but alas no Sofitel:

Accor announces 3 hotels in Myanmar

Accor announced on Tuesday that it will open three hotels in Myanmar, all new-build developments.

The hotels include an MGallery hotel in Naypyidaw, Novotel Yangon Max, and Novotel Mandalay Mingalar.

"We are excited to announce the signing of three new hotels in Myanmar — the first of which will open this year — marking Accor's return to Myanmar," said Michael Issenberg, chairman and chief operating Officer for Accor Asia-Pacific. "Southeast Asia has long been a focus market for Accor, and as the country's tourism industry develops, we see significant growth potential for international hotel operators with long-term experience in the region. These three developments represent yet another step towards our goal of operating 700 hotels in Asia Pacific by 2015."

ibis budget Surabaya Juanda Airport

Surabaya Airport Ibis Budget should open next month. Website says April 2014 but I think that's a mistake. All other reports say 2013 and the owners say 2013 too. It is up the escalators wedged between intl and domestic terminals. Ibis "price" board is also up already.

MGallery Carlton Lyon (reopening)

Accor PR

The MGallery Carlton Lyon: the new MGallery flagship in France raises the curtain

The legendary Carlton Lyon is reopening its doors as an MGallery Collection hotel after a 10-month revamp. This imposing Haussmann building in a class of its own treats its guests to an artistic and elegant atmosphere. The cocktails and amenities created especially for women, the wrought-iron banisters and the hallmark red are only a few of the features. Welcome to a new MGallery flagship....

Second largest French city definitely deserves better hotels (no SPG, only one IHG in the suburbs of the town, no Hyatt, no Marriott, one poor Sofitel, one dated Radisson, one decent Hilton, only a few boutique hotels).

I completely agree with you on the lack of choices in LYS, but what makes you say the Sofitel is poor? It has a really nice restaurant with nice views, it's smack in the middle (literally), the lobby area no complaints there and the junior suite no problems there either.
