Sofitel Ponte 16 Macau/Macao
Hi!
Stayed at the Sofitel Ponte 16 in Macau/Macao for 2N recently and thought I should link my pictures on Flickr in case anyone is interested.
Could not find much about the property on FT prior my stay (which was very nice).
Regards
Ham

Thanks very much for sharing the photos. The rooms look lovely. I really like the bathroom. Interesting that L'Occitane products are provided. Is that new? I thought Sofitels used Roger et Gallet....

I've stayed at the Sofitel a couple of times in 2009, and generally liked it. The rooms are nice, service was good, and I like being right on the river.
I don't think I'd stay at the Hyatt if it is "considerably more expensive" for your dates. If the price is about the same (I paid MOP1188+ for the Hyatt), the Hyatt would probably be preferable (assuming you don't mind the location).

I stayed at the Hyatt a couple of weeks ago, got a nice suite as Diamond upgrade. Great hotel with a very nice club. But: I'm not a fan of the Cotai strip location, and would much rather stay downtown.

I prefer downtown location as well. Used to usually stay at the HI, but it's now mostly over 650 HKD (bad value...) - so I can go for a nice hotel as well
August stay, guess there will be some promos around as well unti then.
Thanks!

Thanks jpdx. Hyatt is 1888 MOP cheapest room, Sofitel is ~1200 for Club Junior Suite (!) or 888 for cheapest ....

Regarding the HI, my last stays there (September 09 + January 10) were really disappointing. Previously, I had gotten upgrades to executive suites, but in September, I got a standard room (non-refurbished), and in January, a refurbished xx12 room (corner room with strange layout, tiny window). And there was a lot of construction noise. My corporate code still yields a HKD550 rate, but unless IHG puts on a really good promo, I'll be staying elsewhere.

Stayed at the sofitel mid last year, it is in an ok location, away from the busy downtown areas but close enough to the main sight seeing touristy locations.
Rooms are comfortable with great bath ammenities and above average service from an almost 100% fillipino crew but casino on site has one of the lowest minimum bets in Macau, you will see many local punters whom frequent.
Aren't many nice hotels in the down town area, apart from Starworld, Wynn and MGM or ones at the Cotai Strip, which is worth a visit but prefer not to stay at.
Would still choose Sofitel for its good value for money and reasonable location.

Anyone stayed recently? Rates for the Luxury River View room in Sofitel is close to the Grand Deluxe room in Hyatt. Are A Club Golds upgraded in this property and will lounge access be given if one is upgraded to a club room?

Yes, stayed there last month and A Club Gold is upgraded to next category room. Not sure about lounge access though - as my upgrade was from superior to deluxe room.

I stayed last month in a Luxury Room and was only upgraded to the club floor (3 floors higher) with NO benefits / lounge.
Also, the front desk didn't know that Accor Gold can get late check out to 4pm.
They forgot to give the drink coupons but realised later.
2 bottles of water (evian and perrier) + box of 4 chocolate delivered to room within 5 mins of arriving at the room.
I complained about the service in the bar / confusion of Accor Advantage Plus discounts and the lack of lounge access - I don't believe the same room 3 floors higher constitutes an upgrade.
I've been invited back for a free night in a luxury room with lounge access and late check out to 6pm so they took my complaint seriously.
I thought it was the norm to get lounge access if you're upgraded to the next category and that happens to be the clob floor. Otherwise, it isn't an upgrade at all!!

Upgrades can take various forms, higher floor, bigger room, better view etc.
The upgrade is for the room only, no club lounge access if the hotel has a lounge. It is not the norm and is not stated anywhere as a perk in the A-Club literature.
