Reservations are optional. I'd only use them around peak flying times (e.g. Thanksgiving).
I typically arrive at South 90 min before my flight--usually that's more than enough time. I do print my BP from home in case I get stuck in traffic and cut it closer. I'd also do >90 min before if checking bags.
