I am no expert at all on aircraft types, but do recall reading those engines on 777 are about as fuel efficient as those on a UA 747? And being TWO rather than FOUR engines the savings on a 14 hour flight must be pretty substantial?

i.e. the tonnage of gas used from AKL-LAX on a 747 carrying 300 pax and same amount of cargo is a LOT more than the 777 with same load. Others here I am sure will have more input on this one.
