No DOB, no gender on front or back. Never been questioned on it. Someone who hangs out here has a DHS ID and said it probably won't be good for travel if you go by the explicit letter of the rules.

Yeah, how ludicrous is that...TSA, an agency within DHS won't accept a DHS (its parent) agency ID?!?!?!
