I was travelling in Y on AA as a OW Sapphire (Qantas Gold) from IAD to LAX recently and was refused entry to the BA lounge at IAD despite me quoting the above. I was told that the local airport rules dictated that I use the (inferior) AA lounge as I was flying on AA. I was only allowed entry to the BA lounge if I was travelling BA. This seems to be against the oneworld rules Was I wrongly denied? Comments please.
Probably, as I take it they did not cite capacity constraints? The Terraces lounge at MIA (since closed, I believe) used to be notorious for this, to the point where they seem to have produced their own laminated lounge access "guide card" (as if writing down a lie, like repeating it over and over, converts it into truth) to pull out whenever eligible passengers tried to point out the error of their ways...a couple of strongly worded e-mails to the Executive Club and the "guide" soon disappeared and normal service was resumed. Thereafter, I always made a point of popping into the BA FLounge if I was travelling AA to clean out the champers and then leave again - believe it or not, champagne can elevate petty revenge to a higher plane....
