- Lunch on buffalo wings and/or beef on weck in Buffalo
- Explore the Finger Lakes region (and the wineries there
)
- Attend a concert at Tanglewood in the Berkshires, have a picnic on the grounds beforehand
- Take the kids to Six Flags New England ("More flags! More fun!"

- Do the Freedom Trail/Museum of Science thing in Boston
- Then on to Cape Cod (or the South Shore of Rhode Island, or coastal Maine) for some beach time and the obligatory lobster
If you rented a car for the drive east, then drop it off in BOS and fly back on AC!

Do you really consider that a special vacation? Going from Ontario to NE?
I find US hotels horribly overpriced as well.
