I know, you're referring to the merger. But I'm referring to the "witiin the next few months" inaccuracy.
They're not even going to get DOJ approval "within the next few months", and until they get that, it's just an announcment!
Meanwhile, once the deal is finalized, it'll still be quite a while before they actually merge their operations (this sort of stuff does not happen overnight -- "see AA/TWA, see US Air/America West, etc").
All true - but generally CC offers tend to get pulled well ahead of the actual merging of operations. This has happened in the past with TWA, Pan Am, and several other carriers no longer in operation. Most of their partner banks that offered CC's with mileage bonuses were put on the shelf well ahead of the actual deals ("..see AA/TWA, see US Air/America West, etc"). Some banks such as US, Juniper, etc stop pre-buying miles in anticipation of major program changes and mileage devaluation.
