FYI, this had already been addressed previously on 9/5/2002:

Sorry folks, but the 1K and Premier Executive waiver for same day changes was always an unpublished benefit with the info only distributed in a United computer system profile, by private direct mail/email, or by private verbal conversations.
This old benefit was not listed in any official published material regarding the Mileage Plus program or benefits.
It never appeared on the web site, and also did not appear in the 2002 Benefits Guide, 2002 Welcome Letter or in the Official Mileage Plus Program Guide.
I would venture to say that most qualifing folks didn't even know they were entitled to this waiver, unless they were FlyerTalkers, of course.
These unpublished benefits, like the Split Awards available to 1Ks that existed for many years and then were discontinued a few years ago and then reinstated again this past March...come and go with the tide.
That's why United likes unpublished benefits so much, IMHO.
They can add, change or delete them at will without as much market reaction as primary benefits would generate.
Incidentally, 1Ks can
still standby for any flight. And they
still have priority on those flights. It's just now they have to pay the fee if they clear.
The mention of the 1K rooms still appears however.
